So, everyone knows that the Internet is full of “money-making” scams that trick people into believing they can make a ton of quick cash, but thankfully most of us can see through these and don’t waste our time and money.
I want to take 10 minutes of your time to show you my top 7 legitimate ways to make money online. When I say legitimate, I mean 100% tried and tested, no hidden small print, no secrets. If there is even a hint of “scammyness” it will not be included on this page. What makes this list so great is that everyone can do all of these methods, there is absolutely no skill required. If you have had any experiences using these suggestions, feel free to leave a comment below.
1. Change your search engine
This one has to be the easiest way ever to make a bit of money online. There is a company called Swagbucks which will actually pay you every time you make a search. It is powered by Yahoo Search so your searches will pretty much be the same as normal. The only difference is that they pay you for it! You can also earn from taking surveys, playing games and watching videos.
You can easily earn $200 a year doing this. The great thing is that it is purely passive income. You don’t have to do anything extra to earn money, plus they even give you $5 just for signing up. These guys are completely legitimate and they actually received an A+ from the website BBB.com (the best scam watchdog site out there). Swagbucks, live since 2005, has tons of experience online, over 2 million likes on Facebook and have paid over $60 million to its members. Worth a shot right?
Swagbucks unfortunately isn’t available in every country. You will only be able to sign up if you live in the US, the UK, Canada, Australia or Ireland.
Another very popular option is Qmee. This is an application you download onto your web browser and then just carry out a normal search on whatever search engine you prefer. You will see more ads than you normally do but this is how you make money. You won’t earn huge amounts but it’s painless and you don’t have to do anything abnormal to make money. Earning an extra $10 a month is definitely possible, and this money can be transferred straight into your PayPal account. Qmee is only available in the USA or the UK though.
2. Watch videos and get paid
There are a few great sites that actually pay you money for watching ads / surfing websites. It’s so easy to do and you definitely don’t need any special skills, just a set up eyes and a finger to click with.
InboxDollars is best in the US, there are many more opportunities for people to earn money as ads are targeted to people living in specific regions. You can also do surveys, play games, sign up to offers, etc. It can definitely be considered as one of the best legitimate ways to make money online. Just like Swagbucks, InboxDollars will actually give you $5 just for signing up.
3. Sell junk mail
Junk mail is one of the most annoying things that exist in our lives, so why not sell it? It sounds like a joke, right? All you need to do is forward the junk mail you receive from the many industries that are required and you earn points that can be redeemed.
SBKC is probably the leading company paying for your junk mail. They are constantly looking for mail from the following industries: insurance, investments, mortgage and loans, banking, credit cards, telecommunication and travel and leisure.
They happily accept your junk emails so they can build better market research to then sell to other companies. Even though on the SBKC website it is stated that they pay you in gift cards, they have actually switched to prepaid Visa cards. This is great as you can now use the money you earn on SBKC anywhere you want.
4. Fix Google’s search results
I know this sounds very technical but please don’t be scared, you really don’t need any techie skills to do this. Plus, you can earn quite a lot of money correcting the search results that Google generates, so listen up.
Google is probably the most important resource online, however it is by no means perfect. Search engines have to use very complex algorithms to make sure that we see the most relevant resources when we search for stuff, but these algorithms aren’t always correct. This is why Google is willing to pay people to look at the search results and judge them in terms of quality, relevancy and usefulness. The more Google wants to make it perfect, the more it is willing to pay for people to fix it.
Fixing Google seems like a task not fit for the average Joe, however that’s where we are mistaken. You can actually earn $12 an hour with Leapforce or LionBridge, and I’ve seen in other articles that you can earn up to $20 an hour, so it’s worth checking out. You can fix Bing’s and Yahoo’s search results too and even earn money assessing different types of social media.
5. Test websites
Testing websites is another one of the best legitimate ways to make money online, without really needing any specific skill. All you need is decent Internet and fluent English. It is very important for websites to be user-friendly, if not they will easily lose potential customers. This is why many websites are willing to pay people to test certain aspects of their site. The tests can take anything from 5 to 30 minutes and most pay around $10 per test. Here are a few of the top testing sites you can earn money from:
- User Testing – $10 per test
- What Users Do – $8 per test
- Try My UI – $10 per test
User Testing is probably my favourite of the list, mainly because it is so easy to use. As with all these companies, there are more people willing to test the sites than there are sites that need to be tested. This means you generally have to move quickly if you want to earn a lot from testing websites.
6. Work for Amazon (HITs)
Amazon is another of the legitimate ways to make money online, and being a big name you know you can really trust this one. To do this, all you need is a decent Internet connection, a headset and an anti-virus software. They do require good communication skills and a basic computer skills too so bear that in mind before applying. Amazon calls this programme “HITs” which stands for “Human Intelligence Tasks”. These are individual tasks that you work on to earn a bit of extra cash online. You can typically earn around $12 an hour.
The tasks can be anything from transcribing videos, taking online surveys, writing about a specific topic. It really is an easy way to make money online. The rewards vary but sometimes you can find high payouts. For example, I just found a task that was paying $263 transcribing an 8-hour video, not too bad right?
Before starting you will probably have to complete some exercises that make sure you are not a fraudster or that you want to steal confidential information. As long as you approach this with your best intentions, you should be fine.
Clickworker is similar to Amazon’s HITs in the sense that users can make money by doing simple tasks online. I have seen that it is possible to make $15 an hour on Clickworker but I haven’t tried it myself. Similar to testing websites there seems to be an abundance of people willing to do tasks and a shortage of companies offering tasks, so you have to be pretty quick.
If you are not a native English speaker, you will have to complete a test to prove that your reading and writing ability is up to scratch. Once you have passed, you are free to choose whichever project you’re interested in.
As with all the legitimate ways to make money online, the main benefits are that you are completely free to make your own schedule, you can work from the comfort of your own home and you can decide to do as much or as little work as you want. It’s a good idea not to give up your day job just yet though. I would always advise trying out these methods one-by-one, that way you can really become familiar with them and can give each a real shot. Good luck and don’t forget to let me know how it goes.
